About This Item

Newton Abbot: David & Charles, Newton Abbot, 1973., 1973. 223 pp, 9 11/16" H. "45 Victorian campaigns described and illustrated with 79 maps." "From 1837 to 1901 in Canada, Afghanistan, India, Africa, and elsewhere, military expeditions were undertaken to protect British interests, extend a frontier or repel an unprovoked attack. It became in the Victorian era an accepted way of life. In this lively and useful study Donald Featherstone, after defining 'small wars' and describing the Victorian soldier and his weapons, covers all the minor actions in detail. Most of the accounts are complemented by specially drawn maps and plans which have never before been collected together in a single volume." Previous owner's small stamp on each of the front endpapers, soft crease down rear free endpaper, small bump at top rear corner, tiny bump at top/bottom corner of front board, wrinkling at the bottom of the spine, very light rubbing. Dust jacket has very light edge wrinkling, small dark stain on the spine lettering - still very legible, a very small chip and creases at top of rear flap- fold, very light rubbing, very light browning to the inside edges.. Not Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
