SIGNED & INSCRIBED by the author on the front end page. There is first a gift inscription: 'Happy Birthday 1957 to Florence - with Love - From Lucien' and, immediately following, the author has written: 'and with greetings to Florence from an old Colorado Springs friend. Frank Waters'. Below the inscriptions is Florence's small bookplate. Maps by George Annand. Not the National Travel Club edition (though that was a small printing, also, of only around 1500 copies), but the 1st trade edition. The Rinehart device is present on the copyright page, there is 'no' NTC on the dustjacket spine, the binding cloth is red, and though the dustjacket is clipped, you can see the $ sign and the lower edge of the first digit of the price. The 'Indian Ceremonial' color plate is present. The book is clean, straight, firmly bound, has no other handwriting in it and no soiling, and has just slight shelf wear to binding edges. The dustjacket is another matter; someone got carried away with clear tape reinforcements (many not needed), both on the front side (a few) and on the reverse side (many, along edges). There are shallow chips at spine ends, a few small, closed edge tears, and a wrinkled area lower front panel at the flap fold, plus some surface rubbing along folds and, as usual, the spine is sunned to a bluish-green color though still readable. It is now in a removable, clear DJ protector, and looks pretty good that way. ; Color and B&W Illustrations; 400 incl. Index pages; Signed by Author .

Hardcovers bound in brown cloth with black and red faux labels on the spines. Collates complete with 8 folding maps, including a folding facsimile map of North America at the front of Volume I. This is a REPRINT of the 1741 edition. Bindings have light wear. The upper right corner of volume one has a small scuff and the rear board has some rubbing at the upper edge and along the hinge. Edges of both text blocks are foxed with heavy foxing on the top edges. The front hinge of volume one is loose but gutter is whole, no tears. Endpapers are foxed. The front flyleaf of each volume has the signature and blindstamp impression of Charles D. Rodenbough, a North Carolina historian. Text is foxed, has occasional light pencil marks in the margins and underlining in pencil. There are some post it flags placed in both volumes.

Hardcovers bound in dark green half leather with marbled paper-covered boards. The bindings show some wear but are quite sound with sturdy hinges. The rear hinge on Volume 1 is scuffed with the untreated leather exposed. There is a white scuff mark on the front cover of Volume 1 at the bottom left corner. Bindings tight. Marbled endpapers. The text is a little toned and has some occasional foxing, but overall the text appears clean. Half title to Volume 1 appears to be a little loose. SIGNED Bechet (one of the publishers) on the verso of the title page to authenticate this edition as not being a pirated edition. Text is in French. A translation of the title into English is, "The Colonies and the Present Revolution of America.
