This is the last book that John Laughlin, a poet of distinction and founding publisher of New Directions Publishing, helped to prepare during his lifetime. The manuscript has been completed and sent to the typesetter before the onset of his final illness and death in November 1997. 247 poems composed in a five-line stanza form first introduced in "The Secret Room (1997). A 'pentastich' refers to a poem of five line without regard to metrics. 94 pages. 9.4 x 6.25 inches. New Directions, New York, 1998.
