Deckle edges. 16 plates tipped in. Labeled tissue guards. This is the E. Fitch Daglish edition reprinted from John Major's first edition published in 1823. Bound with cloth spine and tan paper over boards with a wood engraving of a leaping fish pasted on the front. Patterned endpapers. Sixteen beautiful wood engravings of birds and fish by Daglish printed on India paper and tipped onto blank leaves, with captioned tissue guards. Eric Fitch Daglish (1894-1966) was an important illustrator of books on natural history. This is the First American edition thus, using the sheets of the English edition of the same year. Text is clean on pages with some age-tanning. Binding is bumped on bottom of spine and there are minor smudges on the boards. Name of previous owner inked on first blank page. Lacking dust wrapper. Overall, a nice copy of a scarce book. .
