Document. Expected wear. Fine. Complete set of cancelled royalty checks made out by editor Donald Allen to 44 authors who appeared in the landmark poetry anthology THE NEW AMERICAN POETRY: 1945-1960, all SIGNED on the verso by the individual authors. In addition to his check, which he endorsed on the wrong end, Kerouac has written "For Sterling Lord Agency to re-process." The check for James Schuyler has been SIGNED by him as well as by his lover, artist Fairfield Porter. Denise Levertov has SIGNED both her maiden and married names. Many like Lew Welch, Philip Whalen, and Brother Antonius have added their addresses or an endorsement. Along with a TYPED NOTE SIGNED by Donald Allen and dated 1998 explaining the contract he signed with Grove Press for the anthology and how he pro-rated the royalties earned by the poets and continued to do so until the book went out of print in 1980. A very scarce collection, one of apparently only two in existence, with a fine collection of autographs of many of the important new poets of the time.

666: "The Hymn" to "Lucifer". San Francisco: Hells Angels M.C., 1968 Description
12 colour-printed (262 x 202 mm) single sheets, loose as issued in the original colour-printed glossy card .
Text in an approximation of the Hell's Angels Fat Frank #1 "font", psychedelic and astrological decorations, author portrait by Bay Area photographer Larry Keenan Jr. in reddish-orange on the rear panel of the chemise.
A few cover spots....see photo, but overall very good.
Notes
First edition, uncommon. Fascinating document of the San Francisco underground scene. A sequence of amphetamine-fuelled metaphysical explorations combining the Satanic, astrological, and psychedelic in equal measure, with just a dash of biker lore. Reynolds was secretary of the notorious SF chapter of the Hell's Angels, and the previous year had seen the publication of his autobiography "as told to" poet Michael McLure, with whom he had been performing musical settings of McClure's poems - Frank on… Read More
