Description

London: Macmillan & Co. Ltd, 1963. First. Near Fine/Very Good. Sir Alfred Jules "Freddie" Ayer FBA (1910 â€" 1989), usually known as A J Ayer, was an English philosopher known for his promotion of logical positivism, particularly in his books Language, Truth, and Logic (1936) and The Problem of Knowledge (1956) He was Grote Professor of the Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College London from 1946 until 1959, after which he returned to Oxford as Wykeham Professor of Logic at New College He was known for his advocacy of humanism, and was the second president of the British Humanist Association (now known as Humanists UK) He was also president of the Homosexual Law Reform Society for a time; remarking, "as a notorious heterosexual I could never be accused of feathering my own nest" This book is in blue cloth with gilt titles on the spine Minor bumping on the spine ends is the only issue, with no other marks or damage at all, and the text still very clean and bright The unclipped DJ had minor chipping and edge wear with some age darking on the jacket interior, but overall very good 272 pp.
