Description

Signed by All Six Artists. Square, deep red leather folio set includes a booklet and 2 LP records in sleeves, all enclosed in a red, black and gold marbled slipcase. Contents are secured within by a red cloth ribbon, fastened by a push button at the foredge. Records are housed underneath the booklet within a stiff three wing enclosure, marbled to match the slipcase. In observance of the 85th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall and the establishment of its National Endowment Fund, The Carnegie Hall Society Presented A Concert-Celebration. This limited edition album, commemorating an historic event, was recorded live at Carnegie Hall on Tuesday evening the 18th of May, 1976, featuring the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The 12 leaf booklet in dark orange cover and gilt lettering houses black and white photographs and biographies with original signatures of all six artists: Leonard Bernstein, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Vladimir Horowitz, Yehudi Menuhin, Mstislav Rostropovich and Isaac Stern. Each photograph and signature is tipped in respectively onto handmade paper plates, surrounded by a gilt frame. In addition to credits for each musical piece on each record, text also includes a history of Carnegie Hall, "Monument to Music and Mankind" by Irving Kolodin, as well as text of "Dichterliebe", Opus 28 by Schumann, in both English and German. This commemorative album was designed by Sharon Lee Rider, and is bound by Gilmore Leather in Samoa Calf with handmade French endpapers.<br><br>CONDITION: Absolutely stunning portfolio with minor scuffs on leather. Minor wear along slipcase with small crack at foredge foot, else fine. The signatures and craftsmanship of this piece enshrines the memory of this monumental event, and the legendary artists whose timeless performance is captured within these pages and records.
