Paris: Le cercle des Bibliophiles, 1947. Hardcover. Near Fine. Illustrated with 25 engravings by Paule Peire. One of the 200 copies with a single state of the engravings (from a total edition of 375 copies). The tale of Mussett's celebrated love affair with George Sand, which lasted from 1833 to 1835, is told from his point of view in this autobiographical novel from 1836. Quarto. In an unsigned French three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper binding, with eight raised bands, gilt titles and top edge, and matching marbled endpapers. The original wrappers are bound in. The spine is a trifle faded, with a few tiny nicks and scuffs. Quite lovely.
