About This Item

Washington, DC: Printed at the Office of John C. Rives, 1859. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Large hardcover, original 1859 publication though exterior boards have been reduced to just the thick under boards in partial leather to corners. Boards are still attached by the two sections of binder string but are bare. Internal binding of the text pages are good and pages are secure. Front end page has a small tear/hole near the upper right corner. Underside of boards has large pencil partial writing where the boards were cut from a larger piece. Pages are toned due to age and spotting/staining/foxing is present throughout with some pages being severe. This was likely caused by different types of paper used. Volume contains 44 pages of index and editions of the Congressional Globe starting with Thursday, February 17, 1859 (no. 66) and continues through Friday, March 11, 1859 (no. 166) and numbered as pages 1041 thru 1692. In the rear of book is the Senate Special Session (12 pp.) and the Appendix to the Congressional Globe (326 pp.) and lastly the Laws of the United States, Public Acts of the Thirty-Fifth Congress of the United States (27 pp.) along with Appropriations, New Offices, etc. (10 pp) - for approximately 1070 pages total. Except for the large letters penciled on the underside of the front board there are no ages of handwriting, no notes, no signatures, no library markings present. Exterior is in rough shape but book is complete and a good candidate for research or rebinding. Please note: this is a large and heavy book. Non-US sales or Priority Mail option will likely require additional postage.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
