[1723-1739].. 445 x 275mm.. Single leaf. Light dampstain at very top edge, inner margin top corner slightly trimmed, no affects. Suitable for framing. Illustrates church and Bishop ceremonies of consecration of salt and water, and the blessing of the ground to build a church. Plate number 28. Bernard Picart (1673-1733), son of the famous engraver Etienne Picart and a very good engraver himself, although born at Paris into Catholicism, converted to the Reformed faith and so, in search of freedom of worship, moved to Holland in 1710. This work is one the most famous illustrated histories of religion of its period. The plates were often copied but none are as fine as the originals.
