THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO by Dumas, Alexandre - 1902

Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1902. Dumas' 19th century French adventure novel, which is now widely-considered a world classic. It is a story about hope, justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness, featuring a man wrongly imprisoned, who escapes, becomes wealthy and sets out to revenge himself on those responsible for his imprisonment with unforeseen consequences for the innocent as well as the guilty. This 1902 edition is a four-volume set, each volume 5 x 7 1/4 inches in dark blue, cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spines and gilded top edges. They contain 394, 396, 402 and 452 pages respectively, with Vol. 4 containing a four-page list of other French and English novelists published by Little, Brown. All four volumes show some slight bumping and wear at the spine ends. Edges and corners show no more than a touch of wear here and there. Beyond some light soiling on the fore edges, the text in each book is clean, unmarked, and tight, with each showing a slight spine lean. The frontispieces in each book, as well as the other illustrations are all present with their tissue guards intact. Quite scarce complete and in such good condition.
