Summary

When eggs need to be delivered to all the world’s children the night before Easter, only the fastest bunnies are fit for the job. Country Bunny, being a mama to 21 little ones, thinks that perhaps her dream of being the Easter Bunny is a hopeless one. But brave little Country Bunny cannot be put aside so easily, and through her determination she shows everyone, including herself, that her lifelong hopes for having a family and having the most important job of all can both come true. Enchanted with Country Bunny’s spirit and grace, Grandfather Bunny sends her out the night before Easter to make sure every child gets his or her Easter eggs. In her little gold shoes, she runs all over the world, until at last she comes home to fill the Easter baskets of each of her own little bunnies. Whimsical and sweet with resplendent illustrations in Easter egg pastels, Country Bunny’s story is as magical today as it was in 1939.

Celebrate the possibilities in a 75th anniversary edition of DuBose Heyward’s timeless tale, complete with bonus downloadable audio.

Media reviews

"It is difficult to believe that this very modern feminist tale was originally written in 1939. A gem of a fantasy in which kindness and cleverness win out over size and brawn."--Learning Magazine
