Description

Norwich, Eng: Printed by Thomas Hubbard, for, and sold by John Trumbull, 1795. Hardcover. Very Good. Vol. 2 only. 257 p., 1 folded leaf of an engraved map; 21 cm. Contemporary full calf with gilt rules; red leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled title "Prophetic Lectures." Former owner's name on small printed label on front free endpaper: C.B. Goddard. The same former owner's name is written at the head of the first page of text. Elhanan Winchester (1751-1797) was an American Baptist minister who preached to both black and white audiences. From 1787 to 1794 he travelled through England preaching; after his return to the United States he was involved in the founding of the General Convention of Universalists before his death of tuberculosis. In Very Good Condition: corners are rubbed; front joint just starting at tail; some chipping along edges of map, not impacting image; map slightly foxed; otherwise, clean and tight.
