With fascinating historical accounts of Catharine of Aragon and her family life and marriage, as well as of Elizabeth's suitors, the Montagu family, family affairs during the Civil War, and much more; providing a unique insight into the everyday life of eighteenth and nineteenth century society.The first edition of this work, complete in two volumes. Featuring a frontispiece engraved portrait of Henry and Charles Montagu to vols. I. and II. From the library of Gerald E. Aylmer, notable English historian specialising in seventeenth century, with his bookplate to front pastedown. In uniform half calf bindings over marbled boards, with five raised bands and gilt tooling to spine, titles in gilt on red and black morocco labels to spine. Externally sound with shelf wear, minor rubbing to spine, general light soiling. Gerald E. Aylmer's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
