The first edition. An uncommon work.In the publisher's original cloth. Illustrated throughout with Mervyn Peake's expressive monochrome pencil drawings.This work was written by author and illustrator Mervyn Peake, who is best known for his 'Gormenghast' fiction series. In this work, Mervyn provides a study and guide to using the lead pencil, discussing the craft of the pencil and how to use the material. Throughout Mervyn has included examples of his own pencil drawings. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with the odd spot to the front board, slight marks and light rubbing to the extremities. Internally generally firmly bound with slight strain and cords showing to the front and rear. Pages lightly age toned with scattered spotting. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
