About This Item
Sampson, Low, Marston and Co, 1946. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fair/Poor. signed. Signed by Author(s)182 pages (complete). In fair condition throughout. This is not signed by the author but by Reg (Reginald) Sweet from whose library this copy comes (dated 1947). Sweet, who had this date had just been demobbed from the airforce where he had had 'a good war', had just joined the Argus group of papers in Durban, the Daily News and the Sunday Tribune. He reported on rugby and cricket for them and then as sports editor until retirement in 1982. The author, Louis Duffy was the most esteemed of sports journalists of his generation. His experience of Test matches (cricket and rugby) was unparalleled. The illustrations are by (Jock) Leyden who was cartoonist at the Daily News in Durban for over sixty years. The dustjacket is tatty with much wear, tear and scuffing. It is, however, intact and entire. The board cover is marked and worn. The contents are foxed throughout. The pages are clear, genial, companionable, comfortable, assured and tight to the binding. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
