University Park, PA: The Pennsylvania State University Press, (1964).. (1964).. Very good. - Quarto [10-3/4 inches high by 7-3/4 inches wide], softcover bound in printed wrappers. The wraps are faded along the spine with a stain & a light crease to the rear wrap and a penciled price on the front wrap There is a small area of creasing near the top corner of the front wrap. 36 pages, including a 33-page score. Very good. <p>"The Penn State Music Series No. 5. Denis Stevens, General Editor". Scored for two violins, two violas and cello and for soprano, alto, two tenors and base. The introduction by Denis Stevens is printed in English and German.<p>English composer Richard Dering [c. 1580-1630] is best known for his four sets of "Cantiones sacrae". When he came to London he heard for the first time the traditional cries of the merchants and street vendors. He wove them into a kind of musical tapestry, adding in some traditional tunes and some short songs composed for this work. "Cries of London" was never pubished but survived in manuscript.
