The second edition of this scarce collection of Carlyle's works, in the publisher's original cloth bindings. Hailing from the Scottish lowlands, Carlyle was a leading writer of the Victorian era, who exerted a profound influence on nineteenth-century art, literature, and philosophy.This collection of essays includes discussions of Goethe, Sir Walter Scott, the French Revolution, and Boswell's Life of Johnson.With two library stamps to the tail of each title page, and a small number of further leaves. In the publisher's original cloth bindings, with bumping to spine heads and tails. Front hinge of volume I strained and rear hinge of volume VI strained, but firmly held. Front hinge of volume II strained, and tender. Volume III and IV front and rear hinges strained and holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Library stamps to title page tails, and to a small number of further leaves. Pages otherwise generally clean and bright. Very Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
