Rendell Rhoades was a distinguished American scientist of many interests, including a particular enthusiasm for croquet : by the time of his death in 1976 he had built up a collection of nearly 1,000 pieces of croquet literature.This bibliographical catalogue of some 679 items well brings out the glorious diversity of the collection: in addition to the principal section on croquet's history and rules, there are chapters on croquet in literature, in biography, in art and music; manufacturer's catalogues, and much more including miscellaneous croquet ephemera.
