This incredibly rare 1796 printing of 'The Laws of the United States of America' was published in three volumes and collected by Zephaniah Swift. According to Evans, this work
"contains the acts passed by the first, second, third, and fourth Congress. This edition published under an order of the Congress of the United States, has many peculiar advantages..."
This third volume includes laws such as making alterations to the United States flag, duties and taxes on foreign wines and teas, loan extensions approved for the federal government, as well as approval for giving states admission into the Union.

Note on dating: like many other Verne first editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. The dating comes from the ads in the back of the book – however, this edition has no ads! A rare 1873 true first edition of Verne!

Papinius Statius was a 1st-century Roman poet remembered for his epic poems 'Thebaid', 'Silvae' and 'Achilleid'. These works tell famous stories of mythology and iconic heroes – namely Oedipus and Achilles. These poems were known to have had significant influence on Juvenal as well as into the 12th-century on Chaucer, Dante, and Boccaccio as well as Dryden and Grotius in the Renaissance.

This 1559 edition is incredibly rare! It was published in Lyon by Sebastien Gryphe and includes each of the three expected works of Statius.

Francisco de Quevedo was one of the most well-known Spanish authors of the early 17th-century. He is most remembered for his satirical 'dream' poetry in which he writes himself into his story. 'Dreams' or 'Visions' is a collection of visions in which Quevedo witnesses the Day of Judgment and sees visions of hell, demons and devils, evil spirits being exorcised, and more experiences of the occult. The satire came in the form of Quevedo seeing various recognizable groups of people in hell including lawyers, astrologers, innkeepers, Protestants, accountants, Jews, physicians, and …women.

John Dryden was a 17th-century English poet who was known as England's very first Poet Laureate and would lead England into a literary period that would become known as the Age of Dryden. He also established standard forms of English poetry though his satires, fables, epigrams, poems, and plays.

Edward II of England was an early 14th-century king of England best-remembered for his political turmoil which arose from his relationships with Piers Gaveston and Hugh Despenser. Edward gave unwarranted privileges to these nobles (who had significant wealth and influence) – an act that angered other barons. So much so, that these other nobles executed Gaveston for his actions to the king. Edward's relationships with these men caused his reign to be one of the most tumultuous reigns of medieval England.
Author Henry Cary wrote an important 17th-century survey of Edward II's reign which focused primarily on the rise and fall of his two closest allies – Gaveston and Despenser.
