Malabar, 1693. unbound. good. Botanical. Engraving with hand coloring. Page measures 14.25 x 18 1/8". Image measures 13.5" x 17.25".<br/> <br/> Beautifully colored branch from a type of pala, a large tropical tree. The name of the speciman is repeated Malabarese, Latin, Sanskrit and Arabic. Some scattered foxing. Hendrik Adriaan van Rheede tot Draackenstein (1636-1691) was commander of Malabar and was responsible for compiling the "Hortus Malabaricus", a major publication of the flora and medicinal use of plants, which took 30 years to complete.<br/> <br/>
