The depiction of Cyprus island on historical maps: Placement, Shape and Orientation from a digital point of view. This study is focused on a geometrical analysis of several important historical cartographic illustrations of Cyprus, from the 14th to the 19th centuries, showing its geographical position in the region, and especially at the eastern edge of the Mediterranean; its exceptionally memorable shape and the orientation of the island in relation to the geographic north. In addition, the more widely applied methods and techniques of digital cartography have made possible an analysis of the shape patterns, of the linear outline of the shores of Cyprus, that is to say; and various historical maps from the 15th to the 18th centuries are classified, the emphasis being on the cartographic period of the Renaissance.
