Preface by author, acknowledgements, notes, selected bibliography, source of the illustrations and index. The text is illustrated with black and white photographs, illustrations, line drawings and maps. Light blue coloured boards with gilt publisher's logo to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Colour photographic dustwrapper with white and peach coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. Title says it all. Rubbing of the back strip corners and the book corners. A previous owner has highlighted some of the text in a yellow coloured marker – which is now starting to fade – please see photograph. Faint staining to the book edges from staining of the dustwrapper. Minor creasing of the dustwrapper edges and rubbing of the panels.
