If man has never ceased to experiment on himself, on his own psyche, the feedback effects of his own inventions, this experimentation has taken different forms according to the communication tools fundamental from time to time in the various civilizations. From the alphabet to the Internet, therefore, there are continuity and discontinuity. But if today we are at the end of the alphabetic man and at the emergence of a new cultural and anthropological formation (which demonstrates that the so-called "human nature" has nothing stable or permanent), this happens because it is language, the tool and the fundamental mediation area between us and the world, which is changing with the advent of the network society. De Kerckhove helps us once again to understand this passage and to orient ourselves in the complexity of contemporary experience.
