New York: Duell, Sloan & Pearce, 1947. First Edition. Quarto; [8], 58, [220]pp of more than 250 illustrations (chiefly b/w photographs); Index. A Fine copy in like dust jacket printed in black and red (with a hint of browning, scarce in this condition) in original blue-grey paper-covered boards printed in black and red with gilt lettered blue cloth spine; yellow endpapers graced with line drawings by Picasso; title page woodblock by Gordon Craig. Among the illustrations are paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture depicting dance of every century, as well as fascinating stories of Duncan, Diaghileff, Nijinsky, Pavlova, Stravinsky, St. Denis, Massine, Balanchine, Graham and others; printed by Lynton R. Kistler. With Armitage's trademark two-page title page; one of his most successful designs, seldom found in ths condition.
