New York: Random House, 1939. First printing. Hardcover. Very good. 6 x 9 in. 238 pp. Red cloth boards with paper spine label. First printing, as stated on copyright pg., 1939. Condition is VERY GOOD ; covers toned at edges and spine, one small faint water spot on lower front. Edges unworn but spine head has a couple of tiny chips. Spine label is toned to same color and the label is chipped and has a vertical tear, but is stable. Binding tight. PO's name and old price on ffep, ffep has two tiny insect holes that diminish and disappear by first pg of text. A first printing of this iconic work. In a Brodart wrapper. Fic. RGR.
Synopsis
The Day of the Locust is a 1939 novel by American author Nathanael West, set in Hollywood, California during the Great Depression, depicting the alienation and desperation of a disparate group of individuals who exist at the fringes of the movie industry. Time magazine included the novel in its list of 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005, and noted critic Harold Bloom included it in his list of canonical works in the book The Western Canon.
