About This Item

Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co, 1894. 1894 reprint. hardcover. 324pp, three quarter leather with raised bands, decorative spine, light wear to extremities, very clean internally, VG. This book is bound in deerskin, which has been specially tanned and dyed for Messrs Hatchard, 187 Piccadilly, W1. Deerskin is a good looking and durable leather which has been rarely used for bookbinding purposes since the Middle Ages. It has been prepared free from injurious acids and the natural grain preserved. The deer were killed owing to shortage of food during the Great War. Very scarce in rather appropriate deerskin.. Including an Account of the Nature and Habits of the Red Deer, a Description of the Scottish Forests, and Historical Notes on the Earlier Field Sports of Scotland. With Highland Legends, Superstitions, Traditions, Folk-Lore, and Tales of Poachers and Freebooters. Illustrated by Sir Edwin and Charles Landseer.. Glacier Books are experienced and professional booksellers. We take pride in offering carefully described books and excellent customer service.
