About This Item

New York: Harper and Row, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Good +/near fine. Octavo, 710pp., illustrated. A good or better copy in the publisher's blue cloth. Large but very faint dampstain to the top edge, visible on the boards, as well, but only with some effort. The interior is clean and unaffected. Front inner hinge just starting, and rather tender. In a near fine dust jacket (supplied from another copy), with sticker removal to the spine. SIGNED and warmly INSCRIBED by Manchester on the half-title page: "For Dick Gildenmeister - With gratitude for his generous hospitality in Cleveland, and with warmest personal regards - Bill Manchester. New York. 9 I 75." Below the inscription, Manchester has drawn a humanoid figure emerging from a coffee cup - possibly some kind of inside joke? Regardless, we could not locate any other inscription by Manchester that was either this effusive, or contained any drawing. Signatures are uncommon, but an inscription of this magnitude is genuinely rare. GIldenmeister was a Cleveland bookseller and tireless pursuer of authorial autographs. A significant copy.

William Manchester gives a thorough yet eminently readable account of the times, political attitudes & events surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
