About This Item

Lisbona: Per Michele Manescal da Costa, 1767. First Italian Edition. Hardcover. Complete in five volumes. Full titles of the first two parts are as follows: 1) Deduzione cronologica, e analitica parte prima, in cui per la successiva serie di tutti i governi della monarchia portoghese, decorsi dal Re D. Giovanni III fino al presente, si manifestano le orrende stragi, che la Compagnia detta di Gesù fece nel Portogallo, e suoi domini col mezzo di un piano, e sistema conservato dalla medesima sempre inalterabile dal tempo, che entrò in questo regno, fin' a quando ne fu proscritta, ed espulsa colla giusta, saggia e prudente legge de' 3 Settembre 1759. 2) Deduzione cronologica, e analitica parte seconda, in cui si riporta quanto successivamente avvenne nelle differenti epoche della Chiesa intorno alla censura, proibizione, e stampa de' libri: dimostrandosi gl'intollerabili pregiudizi, che dall'abuso fattone sono derivati alla Chiesa di Dio, a tutte le monarchie, e stati sovrani di Europa, ed alla pubblica tranquillita dell'universo mondo. lix, [3], viii, 248pp; 249-528, 63, 13pp; [4], 368pp; [16], 358pp; [8] 252pp. Contemporary full mottled calf, spines with five raised bands, finely decorated with gilt floral motifs, and with red calf labels lettered and decorated in gold, all edges stained red.
