Jean-Pierre Filiu is professor of Middle East studies at Sciences Po, Paris School of International Affairs. He has been invited as a guest speaker to various American universities and think tanks,[1] including the Harvard Kennedy School and the James Baker Institute, Texas. His "Apocalypse in Islam" was awarded the main prize (Augustin-Thierry) by the French History convention (Rendez-vous de l'Histoire). This book, published in 2011 by the University of California Press is a in-depth study of Islamic eschatology and its contemporary narratives. "Among authors trying to make sense of why the uprisings of 2011 largely failed, Jean-Pierre Filiu stands out. His new book "From Deep State to Islamic State: The Arab Counter-Revolution and its Jihadi Legacy", combines passion, scholarship, and insight to present a convincing explanation of the deep malaise afflicting the Arab world." -- The Economist.
