John is among the leading personages connected with the philosophy of logicality and is regarded as among the fathers of functional psychology. A Review of General Psychology survey, placed him as the 93rd greatly quoted psychologist of the 20th century. A renowned civic thinker, he was also a foremost proclamation of advanced instruction and free thinking. Yet, John is known mostly for his works on teaching, he also authored on a number of other subjects, such as epistemology, metaphysics, aesthetics, art, logic, social theory, and morals. He was a prime didactic reformer for the 20th century.

The intervening plot of John

Synopsis

John Dewey's Democracy and Education: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Education seeks to both critique and further the educational philosophies espoused by both Rousseau and Plato. Dewey found that Rousseau's ideas overemphasized the individual, whereas Plato's did the same with the society that the individual lived in. Dewey felt this distinction to be a false one, seeing the formation of our minds as a communal process, like Vygotsky did. Hence an individual makes sense only as a part of society, and the society makes sense only as a realization of its individuals.
