About This Item

New York: Charles Scribners Sons, 1912. First American Edition. Pictorial cloth. Very Good/None. Jessie Willcox Smith. Tall thin quarto (9 5/8 x 6 3/4"), original publisher's green ribbed cloth with circular pastedown with detail from color plate depicting Tiny Tim on Bob Cratchit's shoulders + gilt border & titling on front cover, with 10 full-page color drawings by Jessie Willcox Smith facing descriptions, 46 thick glossy pages. Jessie Willcox Smith (1863 - 1935) was an American illustrator during the Golden Age of American illustration. She was considered "one of the greatest pure illustrators." Among the more than 60 books she illustrated were many prominent authors such as Louisa May Alcott, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Robert Louis Stevenson, and--as here-- Charles Dickens.

Very Good copy overall: Tight, bright, clean internally. Moderate wear to cloth apparent along its front gutter, corners, and frayed base of the spine. There is a barely visible 3/8" circular scrape on the title page that's above the word "Ten." No previous owner markings. No foxing to the bright, gorgeous, and evocative plates.
