Suffolk: Antique Collector's Club, 1976. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 11" by 8.5". George Bryant Campion. A dictionary work on British watercolour painters, complied by Huon Mallalieu, held in the original unclipped pictorial dustwrapper. The first edition of this work, in the original unclipped pictorial dustwrapper. The dustwrapper shows 'Queen Victoria and the King of Sardinia Inspecting Troops at Woolwich' by George Bryant Campion. This is the first volume of a two volume set, this volume comprising only of text, and volume two being illustrated. This work was believed to be the first dictionary documenting all British watercolour painters, recording some six to seven thousand watercolour artists working in Britain before 1920. The author not only discussing biographical details of each artists, but also explores their style in painting, as well as linking them to other painters who has inspired them. With family trees to the rear, depicting the Alkens, Aylesfords, Oldfield Bowles, Sowerby, and the Varleys. Huon Mallalieu worked at the auction house, Christie's, spending three and a half years in the watercolour department. He then became a freelance writer, and also published a book in 1975 about the Norwich School. In the original publisher's cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Dustwrapper with light edgewear, predominately to the head and tail of the spine, with some creases to the joints. Very light mark to the head of the front wrap. Small price label to the tail of the front flyleaf, 'Antique Collectors Club, £17.50'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
