Sticker removed from front end paper. Booklet is trimmed on the bottom obscuring the lower printed border line on the title page, (but not affecting any text). Plenty of space remains in the margins of the text pages. 40 sheets of 19th century blank paper are bound in the rear. Top edge gilt. The author is actually Henry Keepe writing under the pseudonym of Charles Taylour. His booklet, addressed to King James II, describes how he (Keepe) salvaged the crucifix and gold chain of Edward the Confessor from a damaged tomb at Westminster and how he later presented this treasure to the newly crowned king. 'Antiquitates Apostlicae', or 'The History of Lives of Holy Apostles' is biographical history of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. It contains the lives of Peter, Paul, Andrew, James of Zebedee, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (the less), Simon, Jude, Matthias, Mark, and Luke.

Francis Mason was a notable and important bishop of the Church of England at the end of the 16th-century. He is best remembered for his 1613 defense of the Church, "Of the Consecration of the Bishops in the Church of England". In this book, Mason describes the importance of having bishops be consecrated. This controversial book propelled Catholic authors to condemn Mason's work in which he published more and more editions including this Latin edition which was published in 1625.

1590 POPES Lives Platina Catholic Church Sacchi Italian Panvinio Venice Medici

Bartolomeo Sacchi, or Platina, was a 15th-century Italian humanist who is most remembered for his book 'Vitae Pontificum,' or 'Lives of the Popes.' 'Lives' was an important work dedicated to the papacy of important Catholic popes, but Platina wrote the work through the lens of Roman history with obvious themes of paganism. This book was the first systematic handbook on papal history and praises the punishment of heresy throughout the Catholic Church.

This 1590 edition of Platina was published in Venice by Girolamo Polo. This edition is notable for being revised and edited by Onofrio Panvinio.

1541 Catholic LAW Decretals Pope Boniface VIII Gregory IX Medieval Judaism Jews

Pope Boniface VIII was a 13th-century Catholic Pope who is best remembered for his contributions to the Sixth Book of Decretals. In this decretal, Boniface continues the original five decretals established by Gregory IX which helped teach Catholic canon and church law and more importantly, gave power to the pope over the Church.
Originally written in 1234, this Catholic doctrine included many anti-Jewish sentiments, in particular the "perpetua servitus iudaeorum" stating that all Jews would be servants until the end times. Because of this, Jews were suppressed from having any sort of direct influence in political or ecclesiastical decisions for centuries.
