Description:
Witney: The Strawberry Press, 2007. First edition. Hardcover. New copy. Imperial octavo. Pp. 40. Illustrated: 12 plates. Slip-case. Number 49 of 150 copies printed by Paul W. Nash on Zerkall mould-made paper. The drawings were printed by J. W. Northend Ltd. of Sheffield. An additional ten copies on hand-made paper, specially bound in red morocco and preserved in a clam-shell box were also issued (details on these from the bookseller). Lord Carlow wrote this essay in 1938 for a book he meant to publish at his Corvinus Press, but the book was never completed because the plates and the printed sheets were destroyed by enemy action in May 1941. Only one copy survived, that belonging to Lord Carlow himself. Paul W. Nash is the author of a detailed study and bibliography on the Corvinus Press (Scholar Press. Aldershot: 1994), and his efforts to bring this book into print are commendable. A most beautiful production in every respect!

1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. History and very detailed analysis of the printing and publication of the book from the viewpoint of the Nazi Party and Dritte Reich, German gothic text (of course), ill, f/o, foreword by Hans Johst. In 1933, Johst signed the Gelbnis treuester Gefolgschaft, a declaration of loyalty to Hitler by pro-Nazi writers. In 1935, Johst became the President of the Reichsschrifttumskammer (writer's union) and of the Deutsche Akademie fr Dichtung (poetry academy), powerful organisations for German writers. In the same year the last prominent Jewish writers, e.g. Martin Buber, were expelled from the Reichsschrifttumskammer. By this time these organisations restricted membership to writers whose work was either explicitly pro-Nazi or at least approved of by the Nazis as non-"degenerate". Johst achieved many other positions of importance within the Nazi state and the SS. He was the Nazi poet laureate. A rare book in excellent condition, VG/VG, 1st edn. Wonderful drawing on dust jacket by Albrecht Durer, 1506. The book was published with the assistance of Hellmuth Langenbucher, regarded as one of the leading Nazi literary scholars and was one of the most influential journalists and publicists of the Nazi Party.

Notes from Favole in Versi: "Giacomo Leopardi was born in Recanati on 29 June 1798, the eldest of 10 children of Count Mondaldo and Adelaide of the Antici marquises. In 1908 he wrote his first poem - the sonnet: 'La morte di ettore' - and other compositions in prose and verse. Between 1809 and 1812 he wrote what are defined as childhood poems or puerile critti. The childish writings are practically the preparation for his creative production, the one to which Giacomo Leopardi owes his fame. Among them are, among other things, some fables, which were widely published after his death. The fairy tale was a typically eighteenth-century…

Austin: Texas Writers Project, 2000. Original . Broadside. FINE. 24 x 36 inches, printed on high quality coated stock with metalic ink. Shipped- rolled in heavy tube. This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
