About This Item

Amsterdam: Bernard Picart (Amsterdam), 1728. First Edition. Leather. Very Good. 29 plates with title page, cut, hand-tipped to sheets and bound in a red morocco leather binding, from Picart's series of costume plates of Dutch and Frisian fishermen, farmers, and others engraved by Gaspard Duchange. Originally printed on 6 leaves, and usually found unbound on 12 sheets, there seems to be only one missing plate: Poissonierre d'Amsterdam (Amsterdams viswijf), the fishmonger's wife. Small chip out of one of the two leather spine labels, with minor sunning to the edges, otherwise clean and bright, with no markings. In stock, ready to ship now from Evanston, IL!
