Synopsis

A broken family finds its way back together in this captivating story from the author of Church of the Dog A charismatic author with a voice and message all her own, Kaya McLaren has become beloved in the book world as much for her upbeat energy as for her rich storytelling. In On the Divinity of Second Chances , she portrays a family on the brink of dissolution-a mother besieged by middle age, a distant father lost in daily life, and their three teenage children struggling in various ways with the family's disintegration even as they conceal a secret that could send their parents further over the edge. With the help of a group of tap-dancing old ladies, a sensual tango teacher, and a lot of luck, this family is about to learn that everyone gets a second chance which, as McLaren beautifully reminds us in this inspiring novel, is sometimes even better than the first.

Reviews

On Feb 28 2015, a reader said:
Thoroughly enjoyed the narrative way the story is told, the human dilemma of holding a family together is funny, sad, and intriguing. The characters are very endearing and the way the family dynamics unfolds is appealing. No ordinary family but then again nothing extraordinary either, could be your neighbours with a sprinkle of the unexpected.

For a novel told from so many different perspectives, I didn't find this the least bit confusing. Each character is so vividly quirky; it is not hard to tell them apart. Unlike many other fictional stories, I cannot name anyone in real life that is anything like this family, but I wish I could! They are loving and funny and have very strong personalities. I found myself laughing out loud and sharing different passages with family and friends. I highly recommend On the Divinity of Second Chances for anyone looking for words of wisdom or just a good laugh.

About Wonder Book

With 3 stores less than 1 hour outside the DC/Metropolitan area (1 in Gaithersburg, 1 in Frederick and 1 in Hagerstown, MD), we have the largest selection of books in the tri-state area. Wonder Book and Video has been in business since 1980 and online since 1997. We have over 1 Million books for sale on our website and another 1 Million books for sale in our 3 locations. We have a very active online inventory and as such, we can receive multiple orders for the same item. We fill those orders on a first come first serve basis, but will refund promptly any items that are out of stock. Since 1980 it has always been about the books. ALL kinds of books from 95 cent children\'s paperbacks to five figure rare and collectibles. A merging of the old and new is where we started, and it is where we are today. Our retail stores have always been places where a reader can rush in looking for a title needed for a term paper that is due the next day, or where bibliophiles can get lost \"in the stacks\" for as long as they wish. In 2002 USAToday recognized us as \"1 of 10 Great Old Bookstores\", and we have been featured in numerous other newspaper and TV stories including Washington Post and CSpan.
