The third edition of this work.Complete in three volumes.'Domestic Annals of Scotland' is a detailed social and political history of Scotland, exploring the country from the sixteenth to the seventeenth century.The author, Robert Chambers, focuses on this century of vast development in the country, beginning with the reign of Mary, to the joining with England, up to the reign of George II. Each volume is illustrated with a vignette title page, and in-text engravings, as well as a frontispiece to Volume III. Chambers was a notable Scottish publisher, evolutionary thinker, and an early phrenologist. Bookplate of T. & M. James to the recto of the front endpapers. Gift inscription to the recto of the front free endpapers. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume I, 'A Souvenir of Cadzon Church, Hamilton, July 18th 1885'. In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Spines are faded. Minor rubbing to the spines and extremities, heavier to the heads, with a small amount of loss to the head of the spine of Volume I. A few minor marks to the boards and spines, a little heavier to the rear board of Volumes I and III. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume I. Bookplate to the recto of the front endpapers. Gift inscription to the recto of the front front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Very Good
