London: W. Lewis, 1822 . Leather. Good. 9" by 5.5". None. A leather-bound copy of this important medical work by Scottish physician, William Buchan. Bound in full calf. First published in 1769, this is physician William Buchan's best known work, in which he provides laypeople with detailed descriptions of the causes and prevention of disease, with the goal of 'laying medicine more open to mankind'. This work was extremely popular with over 80,000 copies and 19 editions sold in Buchan's lifetime, it was one of the most popular medical texts of the eighteenth century. This particular edition contains further observations on the advantages of vaccine inoculation, with instructions for performing the operation, as well as an essay detailing bandage application to be done by yourself at home, without having to consult a doctor. In a full calf binding. Externally, sound with slight rubbing to boards and extremities. Front joint is cracked, with cords showing, and may detach with further handling. The odd mark to boards. Front hinge is tender, rear hinge is slightly strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with light age toning and the occasional spot or handling mark. Good
