About This Item

unknown: unknown, 1931. No Binding. Very Good. 7" x 5. uncredited. Dornier Do X (D-1929) Flying Boat, Original, 3 Vintage Photographs, Circa 1931. Claude Dornier design. Flugschiff ("flying ship"), as called by the Dornier company. From the collection of American collector Richard Calow, but these unsigned photographs have no information regarding when, where, or by whom they were taken. All 3 are 7" x 5", unsigned, and just in Very Good condition, due to a corner clip on one and overexposure when the other two were taken. See scans. Probably taken around 1931, certainly no later than early 1933, based on the short flight history of the Do X. Likely taken during the one very long, circuitous flight from Friedrichshafen to New York in 1931, but no evidence exists here to certify that. Claude Dornier's design only ever existed in three examples - the original (this one, the Do X) and two sold to the Italian government, those being the X2, named Umberto Maddalena (I-REDI), and the X3, named Alessandro Guidoni (I-ABBN). The Do X was the largest, heaviest, and most powerful flying boat in the world during its short operational life. Provenance regarding collector Calow (who likely acquired these sometime in the 60s or 70s) as the source is available to purchaser upon request. These will ship in a new, sturdy, protective box - not a bag. In sealed storage on premises, ready to ship. Lsmph4
