Jacket has been affixed to a stiff paper backing, with internal tape repair, and the flaps glued to the pastedowns. Heavily rubbed and scuffed with the lower half of the spine missing and a 1" by 2" chip to the lower front near the spine.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Poor. Ex-Library.

New York: Random House, 1941. Hardcover. 8vo. Tan cloth with blue spine lettering and decorations, pictorial dust jacket. 278pp. Good plus/good plus. Couple of tape stains to front and rear board; endpapers scuffed and age toned. A tight and decent first edition, with text block bright and quite nice, a solid "very good." Decades ago the jacket was housed in one of those black-bordered jacket protectors, which left visible but inoffensive dark marks along the top and bottom ¼" of the jacket and traces on both endpapers. Overall a presentable first edition despite noted flaw -- and priced accordingly. Jacket graphics of a nighttime dock scene arecompelling, captioned "A baffling crime wave in Miami is solved by the author of WHO'D SHOOT A GENIUS.
