About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1949. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). First edition of the author's second novel after his steamy first blockbuster, Never Love A Stranger. Inscribed by Robbins to his editor, William Koshland."To Bill - With heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the best break in my life. Harold 8-23-49. " The Dream Merchants was adapted into film with Robert Culp, Eve Arden, Kaye Ballard & Ray Milland. 8vo., 496 pp., blue cloth, gilt-stamped title & decoration to spine, blind-stamped device to upper board, top-edge stained purple. Laid-in is a smal l book inspection slip. The cloth is dampstained at the bottom edge of the boards, with a faint stain at the bottom fore-corner of the book block. There is a corresponding stain along the bottom edge of the George Salter dustwrapper, which is visible only on the reverse; [a few tiny chips]. Despite the dampstain, the book & jacket still maintains a bright appearance. In another book generation, who will represent to collector's, the literary & sociological history of America - could it be Harold Robbins - the 40's, 50's, 60's & 70's were his to describe - he started a trend that many would follow.
