As Obama's name recognition increased following his famous address to the Democratic National Convention in 2004, he switched to a short-form signature; this example, preceding the speech by two months, retains the more desirable long-form before the switch. The future president's first book, Dreams From My Father, was published as Obama began his run for the Illinois senate, and helped to establish his reputation and image. This is the first paperback edition of the book, following initial publication by Random House in hardback the previous year.
