About This Item

Calcutta: Thacker, Spink & Co. Ltd, 1897. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". Not Stated. A smart third edition of this illustrated work on Calcutta during the time of Hastings, Francis, and Impey. Third edition. Considerably enlarged, with additional illustrations. Illustrate with frontispiece and fourteen plates, one of which is folding. Collated complete. A collection of writings from Calcutta, mostly between 1756 and 1781, during the time of Warren Hastings, Philip Francis, and Elijah Impey. Hastings as the British Colonial Administrator and Governor of the Presidency of Fort William in Bengal, as well as the head of the Supreme Council of Bengal, and Impey as the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Fort William in Bengal, were later impeached due to the continued accusations and antagonisms of Sir Philip Francis, a British politician of the Whig party. Written by Henry Elmsley Busteed, a British writer and historian. In the original brown cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good Indeed
