About This Item

By 1961 the Publisher knew well in advance it was going to be picked up by so many Book Clubs and had a great notion it would be on a shortlist for the Pulitzer. Because Edwin was a regular at the Atlantic Monthly and has a new novel and he had tackled a tough subject: DEATH of a loved one. This book has so many First Editions, about 20? After a True First of a First(which could be 1 of 2 of those) either the Little Brown stated First Edition or the Presentation Copy of the Little Brown stated First Edition(I may still have one). I have one that someone pushed off as a 1st by trying to hide the square on the back by loosening the cloth around it. These others can be just as nice, so pick a nice-looking one and don't fret about this winner. You can usually get a real one of 2 for cheap but they tend to be battered or have No DJ, with sun-faded spines and top edges, so condition is the question here. I have seen this issue but in very poor shape except for this one and I would buy more like it. You really can't tell who printed it but they did a good job with the Darker Gray (hard cloth) and the gold lettering snaps out at you, it stands up, but a very light stain top edge that fades quickly. This one has light foxing here(sandpaper it later) also minor on fore-edge. Light bruising/bumping on the thin part of the cloth spine ends. DJ: has a half-inch long tear front cover, with some minor chips and minor shelf wear.

I am a private collector, mainly Pulitzer Prize winners, but I inherited 1000's of hardcovers and looking to sell them off. I will be relocating in the near future, and need to lighten the load.
