Chicago: Rhodes & McClure, 1879. Hard Cover. Red cloth lettered in gilt and decorated in black; frontispiece engraving of Edison, 171 pps.plus 5 page publisher's catalogue at rear, including ad for this book in its "Tenth Thousand". Illustrated throughout with engravings and diagrams of Edison's inventions. Very early work on Edison and his inventions including "...incidents, anecdotes, and interesting particulars connected with the life of the great inventor...(with) full explanations of the telephone, phonograph, tasimeter, electric light, and all his principal discoveries..." . This work was issued simultaneously in paper wrappers and in cloth. A tight, claen example, private library bookplate front pastedown and issue stamp for the "Standard Library" dated 1888 at the top right corner of the title page; Cover gilt bright, spine gilt somewhat rubbed; wear to the cloth at the tips and spine ends, short split at the top 1" of the rear gutter.
