[Tokyo 1961], Hokuseido. Brown cloth, very good, 312p.,11 bw photos, color frontispiece & folding photos, index, biblio- graphy, dj., copy in collector's condition. SCARCE FIRST EDITION This excellent monograph begins with a history of Oriental Humour, European Satire, and 18th century Edo satirical ver- se. The he leads in to Mutamagawa for 18 chapters, and on to Mankuawase, Yanagidaru, Parodies of Hyakunin Isshu, Suetsu- muhana, Kawasoe Yanagi, Yanagidaru Shui &c. This is a serious work on Senryu verse. Well done, with may Japanese texts translated expertly into English by the author. Zen master D.T. Suzuki described Blyth as "one of the most emi- nent exponents of Japanese culture." Blyth's studies on Haiku, Japanese humor, and Zen are "unique contributions towards East-West understanding." Blyth lived and worked in the East for 40 years, until his death in 1964. ALWAYS RARE! Reginald Horace Blyth. **** A very well written, readable set of books. The celebrated…

Very good in a very good dust jacket with protective mylar cover. Clean, tight, no markings. Reginald Horace Blyth (1898 1964) was an English author, teacher, poet, and friend and student of Zen Buddhism under D. T. Suzuki. As a devotee of Japanese culture Blyth is most famous for his writings on Zen, Haiku poetry, and Senryu. He almost single-handedly popularized Haiku in the West. During the war Blyth was interned as an enemy alien in Japan alongside Robert Aitken. After the war he worked hard to encourage a peaceful dialogue between Japan and the West, and was one of those who drafted Emperor Hirohito's official declaration that he was in fact…

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
