About This Item

Edison, NJ: Chartwell Books, Inc.. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 2009. Hardcover. 0785826505 . Edward S. Curtis 91868 -1952) spent more than 20 years among Indians of the American West and northwest documenting their lives at the beginning of the nineteenth century at a time when their ancestral ways were passing. This book contains over 300 sepia-toned photographs, most captioned, and published with great clarity. Curtis' work was funded by financier J. P. Morgan, and Curtis began publishing his work ("The North American Indian") beginning in 1907. It was issued in a limited edition of 20 volumes for subscribers only--eventually 222 copies were printed. The final volume was published in 1930. For many years, there were no reproductions of his works. This edition has commentary by Don Glbrandsen, and some of Curtis' finest photos were chosen for inclusion. The large-format edition is particularly well suited for his photographs. Original publisher's glossy pictorial covers. A nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. Dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no significant chips, tears, or markings. Priority and international shipping will require additional postage given the size of this book. Please inquire if you would like more information. ; B&W Photographs; Oblong Folio ; 256 pages .
