The post-Byzantine painting of Epirus has been systematically investigated in recent years. However, most publications are on the heritage of the city of Ioannina. The post-Byzantine painting of the Arta region has occasionally been studied, although having monuments of great interest, many of which are directly connected with the tradition of the Despotate of Epirus. This book presents pictures of temples and monasteries of the Holy Metropolis of Arta, which are mostly unpublished: from the late Byzantine period until the late 19th century. Among the presented monuments are the famous Vlacherna, Hagios Demetrios at Katsouri and Saint Basil of the Bridge. It also presents two unique Byzantine icons identified so far in Arta.
