Wien / Vienna: Johann Thomas Edlen V. Trattnern 1770. 8vo. [viii], 157pp., (misnumbered 167) TEXT IN GERMAN. Original binding, brown half calf with gilt decorated spine and speckled boards. Wear to the edges of the boards, with loss to the head of the spine and bubbling to the paper. Slight lean to the binding, which is otherwise firm. Minor marks internally, with some staining to the tail of the rear leaves. Owner's name in ink to the front endpaper dated 1783. Born in Luxemborg 1722, Heinrich Johann Nepomuk Crantz was a prominent 18th century German physician who studied under many notable doctors of the time including Gerard van Swieten, physician to Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa. After finishing his medical training Crantz became chair of the school of midwifery at the University of Vienna. Here he advocated against the hasty use of medical instruments and wrote this guide to Labour and Childbirth. English translation of the title: Introduction to a True and Established Art of Midwifery. � . Good. Original Boards. 1770.

Prices are in sterling, and are subject to availability. We can accept bank transfers in Sterling, Euros, US and AUS dollars. We ship priority shipping as standard, and pack our books well. Courier services available. We are also able to offer same day delivery within London postcodes for some orders - ask for a quote. Valuable items will be sent via registered airmail or one of the courier services. Large orders can be sent via consolidation, which reduces the cost per book. In the unlikely event of an incorrect description, a full refund will be provided, but please e-mail/telephone first, and within seven days of receipt of the book.
